The cathedral of Salisbury was originally in the village of Old Sarum,
two miles away from its present location. Old Sarum was a garrison town
and squabbles between the military and the religious authorities led
Bishop Richard Poore to build a new cathedral at New Sarum which
is now the town of Salisbury.
