The legend is not so clear as to what happened to Peeping Tom. There are several representations of him in Coventry, including the famous Godiva clock with Tom looking on from his window . Tom bragged about having seen the Lady, naked, after which he became "blind" forever which really means that he was blinded for his deed or more likely put to death.
Today, historians agree that Tom's story is as false as Godiva's is true. The villain was not heard of until the XVIIIth century. The XIIIth century wood statue of him which can be seen in Cathedral Lane originally represented Saint George and was "recycled" to fit a late addition to an otherwise very true story.
