There are several theories as to the meaning of the Uffington white horse. It could represent Rhiannon, a horse-goddess which was revered by the ancient tribes. However the horse wasn’t cut on the side of the hill but near the top of it suggesting that it was meant to be seen from above. It could, therefore, be an homage to Belenus, the sun-god whose chariot was drawn by horses and who could observe it
from the sky.
