The King’s School is considered as the oldest school in England. It dates from the very beginning of Christian education in the country when St Augustine started teaching in his monastery in 597. The present name refers to King Henry VIII who, with the dissolution of the monasteries, re-founded the school in 1541. Writer Somerset Maugham and physician William Harvey are among the former students of the school. ~~ La King’s School est considérée comme la plus vieille école d’Angleterre et remonte aux origines de l’éducation chrétienne dans le pays quand Saint Augustin commença à prêcher dans son monastère en 597.
