The Stonebow was built on the site of the old Roman South Gate which was demolished in the late 14th Century. At the time Lincoln was one the wealthiest towns in Britain thanks to the production of the "Lincoln Green" cloth which was made famous by Robin Hood. ~~ Le Stonebow (arche de pierre) fut construit à l'emplacement de l'ancienne porte romaine du sud, démolie au XIV siècle. A l'époque Lincoln était une des villes les plus riches de Grande Bretagne grâce à la production du "Lincoln Green", un tissu dont Robin des Bois fit, bien involontairement, la promotion.
