Saint Ann’s gate. The Close, around Salisbury Cathedral, is the largest in England. It was built to accommodate the local clergy. The development of the Close led to tensions and incidents between the religious community and the rest of the town so, in 1331, King Edward III gave permission to build a wall around it. Saint Ann’s Gate was completed in 1333. ~~ La Porte Ste Anne. L'enclos, autour de la Cathédrale de Salisbury, est le plus vaste d'Angleterre. Il fut bâti pour abriter le clergé local.
