William Golding was born in Cornwall in 1911. "Lord of the Flies", his first novel, was published in 1954 as he was a schoolmaster at Bishop Wordsworth's School in Salisbury. Golding was not only a writer. He was an actor, a musician and a sailor in the English Navy. In 1944 he participated in the D-Day landing in Normandy. He took part in the sinking of the Bismark and finished his military career as lieutenant in command of a rocket ship. He died in 1993. ~~ William Golding est né en Cornouailles en 1911.
