Construction of the Holy Trinity Church began in 1210 in replacement of an older church built of wood in 845 by Beorhtwulf, King of Mercia. It is said to be one of the most beautiful parish churches in England but it is also famous because Shakespeare's tomb lies in the chancel. William Shakespeare was baptised here in 1564 and, in 1605, he became a lay rector of the parish. For this reason he acquired the privilege to be buried in the church. He died in 1616 and, alongside his grave, are those of other members of his family : his wife Anne, his daughter Suzanna, Dr John Hall and Thomas Nash. ~~ La construction de l’église de la Sainte Trinité commença en 1210 en remplacement d’un précédent bâtiment remontant à l’époque du royaume de Mercia que le roi Beorhtwulf avait fait ériger en 845. Plus tard, il est devenu recteur de la paroisse ce qui lui a donné le privilège d’être inhumé dans l’église. Sa tombe, qui se trouve dans le chœur, est entourée de celles de ses proches : sa femme Anne, sa fille Suzanna, le docteur John Hall and Thomas Nash.
