The Clopton Bridge was built in 1490 in replacement of a medieval timber bridge which had become unsafe. The work was paid for by Sir Henry Clopton who, later, became Lord Mayor of London. In 1812 the bridge needed to be widened and a polygonal toll house was built at the town end of it. In 1822, a second bridge was built for the tramway going from Stratford to Moreton-in-Marsh. It is now used by pedestrians.
