The New Place was built by Hugh Clopton and bought by Shakespeare who lived there from 1611 until he died in 1616. After his death, it became the possession of Suzanna, his elder daughter, and finally it went back to the Clopton family who rebuilt it in 1702. Today, the New Place has disappeared. It was pulled down in 1760. It has been turned into a garden. The only visible parts of the original building are the foundations of some walls, part of the cellars, and two wells.
