The first white man to arrive in the region, was Hale Tharp. He built a home out of a hollowed-out fallen Giant Sequoia log in the Giant Forest next to Log Meadow. It was Tharp who invited John Muir to the forest and persuaded him to preserve the area. ~~~ Le premier homme blanc qui arriva dans la région fut Hale Tharp.
