On 27th August 1255, an eight-year-old boy called Little Hugh disappeared. When his body was discovered at the bottom of a well (which was to give its name to Well Lane) ninety Jews were arrested, sent to London, imprisoned in the tower of London and tortured. After a public trial, eighteen of them were executed. Following this affair the Jews were expelled en masse in 1290 and their possessions confiscated. ~~ Le 27 août 1255, un garçonnet de huit ans nommé Little Hugh disparut. Après un procès public 18 d'entre eux furent exécutés. Suite à cette affaire les Juifs furent expulsés en masse d'Angleterre et leurs biens furent saisis.
